Space of Becoming
About
Space of Becoming unfolds within Dom Penzionera, a building completed in 1992 and awarded the BORBA Prize, Yugoslavia’s highest architectural honor. Designed as a home for the elderly and those living with dementia, the building never fulfilled its purpose due to the outbreak of war.
Entering this abandoned structure, director Rebeka Bratož Gornik and choreographer-performer Daniel Proietto, together with a small ensemble of emerging performers from the Academy of Performing Arts Sarajevo, approach the space not as something to be restored, but as something to be listened to.
Movement becomes a form of witnessing. Architecture is treated not as backdrop, but as an active presence — marked by absence, interruption, and unrealized care. What emerges is a choreography shaped by memory and restraint, allowing history to pass through the body rather than be narrated.
